The attachment functions in PeopleSoft talks about moving files from file server to an application server. What is the difference between both servers?

GetAttachment function to transfer a file from the file server to the application sever.
PutAttachment function to transfer a file from the application sever to the file server.

It can be same or different. Depends on how it is configured. If you have application server and file server
