TUXLOG:

Mainly the log is used to for any startup and shutdown of Tuexdo handlers when an app server is started/stopped. When the app server is up, any tuxedo handler errors and warning will be logged. Also the logs of any forced shutdown of client and their details like userid and IP would be written. The forced shutdown mostly happens when the user has kept the PIA pages idle for more than the threshold time limit. It could be for any other reason also.

Also you would find the no BBL errors if any.

APPSRV_mmdd.LOG:

This log mostly will contain entries of failed logins on PIA with userid, timestamp, hostname/IP etc. Any communication to performance monitor app server also will be written. If there are any of the server processes crashed like PSAPPSRV, it will create a sub directory in the LOGS folder and log the replay, dump files and the cache directory with the cache files. This would be used by PeopleSoft support if they want to troubleshoot your issue.

What are the scenarios to look into?:

The above mentioned scenarios are normal scenarios when there are no issues with the app server or database server. If there are any issue one has to check all log files in $PS_HOME/appserv/domain/LOGS directory. Also two more log files that you need to look into $PS_HOME/appserv/domainname/stdout and $PS_HOME/appserv/domainname/stderr.

Also in the $PS_HOME/appserv/domainname/LOGS folder, you will find MONITORSRV_mmdd.LOG, SMTP.LOG and the trace logs with tracesql extensions.

you mentioned .tracesql files in your response - can you tell me where/how to turn the trace off that is generating those? We don't have any tracing turned on in our appserver config yet the files are generated by user when the user is moving around via the web. Thoughts?
