FSCM Upgrade from 8.8 to 9.0 1 Year, 5 Months ago
Hello Everyone,
I have a question.
From PSADMIN perspective is there any changes/modifications when it comes to upgrade FSCM from 8.x to 9.0?
When we do upgrade from say 8.2 to 8.9 there is no such changes which we should keep in mind. The upgrade guide is quite informative.

As this is going from 8 to 9 i was wondering if anything new has been introduced which should be kept in mind while upgrading (from psadmin point of view)

I would really appreciate if anyone who has done it can give me some insight.

These are the things that I would consider and document before planning the upgrade Application [This list is not a full list as it mainly addresses the Admin point of view for upgrade]:

  • Make sure how many steps required for the upgrade [Some versions require two or more step upgrade]

  • Check the tools version compatibility with what you have and the version that you are going to upgrade the application to.

  • Decide and confirm on maximum number of instances required for the upgrade Demo/Sys/Copies of Production

  • Check the availability of Hardware/Server availability for all the instances and cost of increase and budget for it

  • Also make sure to install the copies of Tools/ Application People Books is installed for everyone in the team to view

  • Check the RDBMS version compatibility

  • Always open an SR with CSC in advance before the decision to upgrade is finalized and confirm the upgrade path with them.

Thank you on getting back on this. I appreciate it.

I was wanting to know if there are any specific changes in version 9 which one should keep in mind.
For example in HCM, some table structures has been changed. For benefits, in 9.0 formulas has been introduced whereas in 8.x it will independent.

Similarly, i was wonderging if any such changes are there for FSCM.

    Regards

There is no one specific change that is to be kept in mind. As you know there are many changes in table structures and new addition of tables in version 9 compared to older versions. I would say all changes are to be studied/discussed and decided on how to handle them.

Also it depends on the level of customization done in your current production environment.

The compare report will give you the list.

If you want to know the changes in vanilla version , do run a compare report between current demo and the version that is planned for upgrade and send to the team for them to identify which are the ones which are customized or custom records/objects and take a collective decision of upgrade or not.

Also one more thing that I forgot to mention is to take a look at the third party tools like Web Logic/ Web sphere etc and check if any upgrades needed. Also discuss about switching over to OAS from Web logic /Web sphere.

    Best of luck.
