king303 Thanks a lot for the detailed answer.

So, can I assume regarding "setup data" will also not be moved from source to target during MTP.

It will be only added or modified as you mentioned.

Thanks again.
PSADMIN When ever there is an upgrade, Maintenance Pack [MP or MTP] or any other type of upgrade, the actual data specific to the shop does not get moved from source to target. They either get modified or more details get added or some data get truncated depending on the way the PeopleSoft is designed to do.

As far as Tools table is concerned we are not worried as they can change in any fashion, either they get deleted or moved from source to target etc.

As far as Application Tables are concerned, there are three types of tables:

  • Control Tables
  • Transaction Tables
  • Prompt Tables

  • The control tables may or may not change depending on what is covered in the MP. The structure may change, the upgrade script may change or delete or modify the data or table in the Control tables. The control tables are changed normally when there is a change in business policy. The possibility of data flowing from source to target exists.

It is the same with the transaction tables. They could change and get dropped or added during the upgrade process. As the data in the transaction tables change very quickly even during the day to day operations, they can change during the upgrade process also, but they are less likely.

The prompt tables, which are used by PeopleSoft Application to generate web pages, there will be lot changes happening during the MP upgrade. The data from source to target get pushed a lot compared to other two types of tables.

In any case, the actual core data does not flow from target to source or source to target. Example the data in an employee table will never go from source to target. If you have an Employee X data in source and not in target, you will not see the Employee X's data in target before and after upgrade.

As an upgrade specialist, both technical and functional specialist need not worry to check if the data flows from source to target.

Also during the upgrade process the comparison report provides on the changes between the source and the target, when ever there is a difference between source and target object and not the data within those tables.

It is the upgrade teams’ responsibility to decide on how to handle the changes one by one and apply the decision on the project and the options selected for upgrade.
king303 My question is during the MTP, apart from tools data does any other data is moved from source to target by Upgrade steps.

Does setup date comes in to target from source or from copy of existing prod
